Shooting Scenes: PBA provides an attorney to contact you at the scene of all on-duty shootings or serious injuries arising from your law enforcement duties, going to the scene if necessary.

Civil Suits and Criminal Action: PBA provides an attorney to protect your individual interests if you are named as defendant in any civil or criminal action arising out of your duties as a law enforcement officer. NO CAP or LIMIT.

Legislative Representation: PBA maintains a professional staff of lobbyists to aid in obtaining legislation beneficial to the law enforcement profession.

Disciplinary Representation: With approval of your local board, PBA provides staff/attorney representation in cases where you have been unfairly disciplined as a result of duty-related actions.

Accidental Death Benefit

We believe that our accidental death benefit is the most generous of any such plan in our service area.

Your beneficiary will receive:

(1) your base salary for one year if you are killed in the performance of your law enforcement duties (maximum payment: $60,000), or

(2) $5,000 if not an occupational death, or to retired and reserved members, in accordance with the terms and limitations of our insurance policy which underwrites the benefit.

Effective December 1, 2007, we have added to our accidental death benefit a  heart or circulatory malfunction benefit.

The heart or circulatory malfunction benefit are for those deaths occurring in connection with a line of duty emergency activity.

To be considered under this benefit all the following must occur: (1) the member is under sixty-five years of age; (2) the first symptom of Heart or Circulatory Malfunction must occur and be medically diagnosed within twenty four (24 ) hours after the member’s participation in an Emergency Activity; and (3) within two years prior to the date a member participates in an Emergency Activity, such member has not been medically diagnosed with any disease, illness or condition of the heart or circulatory system or has not received any medication or treatment for any disease, illness or condition of the heart or circulatory system.

There is also a benefit for reimbursable expenses for initial treatment, up to $1500.00, for medical expenses for initial medical treatment of the symptoms of a heart or circulatory malfunction.

Our benefit plan also includes an accidental dismemberment benefit as well.

Pension Consultants: PBA retains the services of professional consultants to assist in pension proposals and problems.

Computer Service: PBA maintains a state-of-the-art computer system containing comparative data on salaries, fringe benefits and other terms and conditions of employment.

Credit Union: PBA offers membership in a credit union which provides a full range of financial services, including a specially designed, low interest rate VISA.

Liberty Mutual Home & Auto Insurance: Select PBA members may receive discounted rates on home and auto insurance from Liberty Mutual Insurance.
