Dr. Keith Thomas
Senior Pastor
Cottage Hill Baptist Church
4255 Cottage Hill Road
Mobile, AL 36609
Dear Dr. Thomas:
It is with a heart full of gratitude that I
write to thank you and your congregation for
your unselfish provision of good, nourishing
meals to Mobile police officers working during
the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and to all
the other law enforcement officers in the area
as well. As I am sure you know, it is vital that
the very ones who are charged with protecting
and assisting to restore our city be adequately
nourished. You and your church family joyfully
and willingly played a role the size of which
you’ll never know as you fed the hungry officers
who were there to help. In this act of giving,
you served your community and its people in a
basic, tangible way that demonstrated the
validity and solidarity of your faith.
It is a humbling experience to bow before the
fury of a storm like Katrina but it is no less
humbling to know that you are cared for and
nurtured by your neighbors. The Cottage Hill
Baptist Church has put “feet” to its faith and
acted upon its beliefs and is now a shining
example of what godly men and women can do when
they unite their hearts, roll up their sleeves,
and begin to minister to the tired and hungry. I
would like to take this opportunity to extend
special appreciation to your cafeteria staff who
worked tirelessly to ensure that all law
enforcement officers were fed. These individuals
gave of themselves beyond what any of us could
ever thank them for. As a police officer for the
City of Mobile and president of the Alabama
Police Benevolent Association, it is an honor to
extend our heartfelt thanks to these special
servants of God: Mr. Bob Thornton, Ms. Esther
Miller, Mr. Frank Harris, and Ms. Rachel Turner.
The Alabama PBA, the Mobile Police Department
and the hundreds of officers from other agencies
who shared in your kindness salute you and we
thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Sincerely,
Donald R. Scott, President
Alabama Police Benevolent Association
