Every Cop's Nightmare Is To Have To Fire Their Weapon

Every cop’s nightmare is to have to fire their weapon at another human being…and then finding out that you took the life of an innocent person.   This happened in Arkansas over the last year.  It was a tragic mistake and one that I’m sure that the officer regrets.  The question is, “Had he been a PBA member, would the PBA have assumed his legal representation in the matter, even though it was a bad shoot?  The answer is, “YES”.

We have continued to spread the message about the PBA.  Kimmons Gray has been tirelessly canvassing the state in an effort to let cops know about the services that the PBA provides.  The PBA is the organization to belong to, if you are a working cop.  They are there for you.  Just ask the members in Arkansas that have had to use the PBA and they will tell you that the response time and service is phenomenal.   There are other associations and organizations that I belong to but none can match what the PBA does.  I belong to each of these other organizations for different reasons.  Reasons such as, I get great optical and dental coverage with one organization that I belong to but they can’t help me if I get into a shooting, traffic crash, civil suit, or if I’m disciplined unfairly.   That’s why I belong to the PBA… for me. To take care of any legal expenses that might arise out of me doing my job.  If you are a cop in Arkansas and you are reading this and you think that your department is going to back you up when you make a bad decision, then my friend you are living in a fantasy world.    Stop and think--If you are right when do you need anyone to stand behind you?  It’s when we are wrong and when we make mistakes that we need support.   And lets face it, when we need it, we need it… NOW!!

The PBA is laying the groundwork to become active in the decision making process with Arkansas politics.  You’ll see us at the capitol shaking hands and getting to know the people who make the decisions that effect law enforcement in our state.  We’re just building bridges that in the future will help us to get the legislation passed that we need to benefit our profession.  Everybody wants to gripe about the current situation of law enforcement in the state of Arkansas but it seems that no one wants to do anything about it.  The PBA is the vehicle that we need to propel us forward on issues such as our retirement, working conditions, medical care, and any other issues that are concerns for the working cop on the highway.  Anyone who wishes to contact me about the PBA may do so by calling 870-875-1089 or 870-866-6722.  You may get my answering machine or my voice mail but I work for a living too and I’ll return your call.  You may also reach me by email at aspf22@arkansas.net
