ANOTHER POSITIVE OUTCOME FOR A PBA MEMBER On November 26, 2011, Agent Heath Carpenter, of Alabama Beverage Control (ABC) was working an off-duty assignment at the Alabama-Auburn game. At the request of an usher, Agent Carpenter responded to a complaint of unruly fans, who had refused to sit down during the game. (2/23/12)
TROOPER CHARLES JONES ORDERED REINSTATED BY THE The Southern States Police Benevolent Association (SSPBA) and its state division North Carolina Police Benevolent Association (NCPBA) are pleased to hear of the unanimous decision by the North Carolina Court of Appeals in the Trooper Charles Jones case. N.C. Supreme Court declines to consider city's appeal in Silk Plant Forest case The North Carolina Supreme Court has sided with PBA and its members in declining to revisit a Court of Appeals decision which held that a superior court judge had no authority to order the release of officers’ statements obtained during a city review of a 1995 assault case. After more than two years of effort, PBA was successful in preventing the improper release of Winston-Salem members’ personnel information. Please see the link below. (2/7/12)

PBA member prevails in wrongful termination trial On July 7th former Taylortown, NC police chief Tim Blakeley received a jury verdict in his favor upon the conclusion of his wrongful termination trial against the town that had formerly employed him. Mr. Blakeley was represented by PBA attorneys John Roebuck and J. Michael McGuinness. The jury returned a verdict of $291,000 in Blakeley’s favor. After offset of his wages earned since his termination, the verdict stood at $100,000....(07-25-11)
