Mississippi Division Meeting 09-26-09

 


The Board of Directors for the Mississippi Division of PBA held their annual business meeting on September 26th, 2009, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Pearl Mississippi.  Chapter presidents and senior vice presidents from around the state were in attendance.  Also present was the President of Southern States PBA, Jack Roberts, PBA Staff, members of PBA and guests.

The meeting included various reports made to the board concerning membership growth, financial status, Foundation activities, Legislative activity of 2009  and legislative agenda for the coming 2010 session and other matters.

The board adopted the legislative agenda for the coming 2010 session to include:

  • Ø      Increase the death benefit of all officers killed in the line of duty to $100,000.00
     

  • Ø     Clarify statue regarding disability benefits for all officers injured in line of duty to prevent the loss of sick leave while recovering from such injury.
     

  • Ø     Compensation for state officers who work overtime that is classified by the state as Agency Time.
     

  • Ø      Proposal for actuarial study to be conducted by PERS to determine feasibility of a retirement system for law enforcement/public safety employees.
     

  • Ø      Administrative Due Process for Municipal officers. 

In regard to the Foundation activities it was announced that Kadie Hall, wife of Michael Hall, Northeast Chapter President had obtained a very special football for the Foundation to utilize as a fund raiser. The football was an official Pittsburg Steelers Football signed by many of the team members.  The football was donated to the Police Benevolent Foundation by Kadie and Michael Hall as an item for a fund raising promotion.  Jack Roberts, President of Southern States PBA accepted the football on behalf of the foundation and expressed appreciation Kadie and Michael for both their effort and generosity. 

The Police Benevolent Foundation (PBF) is now in the planning stage to provide training classes to law enforcement officers and their families regarding suicide awareness, prevention and the need to intervene.  Tentative plans are to conduct multiple classes within the state starting early 2010.
