I love being in law
enforcement. No matter how big or small you are,
what counts is how you handle situations using
your brain. With the right training and
experience, you can get yourself and others out
of life threatening situations. That is what
makes a law enforcement officer's job different
from any other.
Other people depend on you to do your job and be
the best at what you do. We all take an oath of
office when we receive our positions. That’s why
it’s important for officers to have access to
programs and training. No matter what branch of
law enforcement that you serve, the public
depends on you in a crisis. It's not an easy job
because you have to deal with people when they
are not at their best. You have to deal with
hostile environments and people on a day-to-day
basis.
But who will help you when you need help? No one
can understand your job but a fellow officer or
some one who has been in law enforcement or
works with officers every day.
The P.B.A. is the only organization that I know
of that is made up of officers in every branch
of law enforcement. Each chapter is represented
by a president that is an active officer of that
organization. During election times chapter
members can be involved in screening political
candidates and choosing to endorse those who
support important law enforcement issues. In
this way we have a voice in helping to set
policies that affect our lives as law
enforcement officers.
I would like to encourage any one in law
enforcement to join the P.B.A. You must have
some one that you can call when you are in need.
The P.B.A is something like car insurance. You
can be a good driver and never have an accident.
Then one day someone can run into your car and
totals it. It’s not your fault but you still got
hurt! You may never be involved in a shooting
incident or need help with a grievance – but
things happen quickly, and the P.B.A. will be
there when you need it.
