SSPBA offers Training for active chapters.  Here is what we offer.....

RECRUITING and MEMBERSHIP

Goal: To increase membership by sharing recruiting strategies.

Objective: The student will be able to:

  • Explain why recruiting is important

  • List recruiting strategies

  • Plan a recruiting drive

  • Conduct a successful membership drive

POLITICAL ACTION I

Goal: To inform, educate and elect candidates who most represent the beliefs of PBA.

Objective: The student will be able to:

  • Verbalize why we should be involved in the political process

  • Conduct a professional candidate screening process

  • Endorse and support candidates who support PBA's and law enforcement's issues and beliefs

POLITICAL ACTION II

Goal: To establish and improve relations with our elected officials.

Objective: The student will be able to:

  • Verbalize why we should continue our involvement in the political process

  • List specific ways to stay in-touch with political representatives

  • Explain the importance of personally knowing your political representatives

HANDLING GRIEVANCES AND APPEALS

Goal: To provide members efficient and effective representation on grievances and appeals during internal investigations.

Objective: The student will be able to:

  • Explain the legal defense benefits offered to members.

  • Explain the importance of the Garrity v. New Jersey (1969) decision

  • List the roles of a peer representative in internal investigations

  • List strategies and tactics of appeals and grievances

RUNNING A CHAPTER

Goal: To educate the executive board on how to properly run a chapter meeting and provide leadership to the members and law enforcement community.

Objective: The student will be able to:

  • List the duties of the executive board

  • List the three requirements of a leader

  • Verbalize the significance of issues and morale of officers

 

IMPROVING YOUR PAY AND BENEFITS

Goal: To explain and demonstrate highly effective strategies on how to improve pay and benefits in your agency.

Objective: The student will be able to:

  • Verbalize the importance of being involved politically

  • List proven strategies to improve pay and benefits

  • Plan a public awareness campaign
