The PBA mourns the loss of a great friend and former employee

The PBA family is deeply saddened this week as one of our own passed away.  Former SSPBA Director of Legal Services Jim L. Mullins died on Sunday, October 27, 2013, after a battle with MDS and AML.  Jim served as the SSPBA’s director of legal services for twelve years and played a critical role in helping to streamline the way that the PBA handles legal cases.  His involvement in molding the legal department into what it is today has proved to be a key component in the success of the PBA throughout the years.

Jim came to work with SSPBA in 2002 after a lengthy police career.  He was a valued employee who left a lasting impression on everyone that he worked with.  He was known as a man of faith who worked tirelessly on behalf of SSPBA members.  For current employees who worked with Jim, the news came as a shock while also stirring up great memories of the man that they all once loved to share a workplace with.  “Jim Mullins was a very humble and true Christian gentleman.  He will truly be missed by us all here at PBA,” said Jack Roberts, SSPBA Chief Executive Officer.

Jim retired as a major with the Atlanta Police Department in 1991 after more than 30 years with the department.  Prior to that, he served four years in the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Walker Mullins, daughter, Jami (Philip) Covone, Jonesboro, GA; son, Patrick K. Mullins, Norfolk, VA; 2 grandchildren, Amanda Hudgins and Mark (Heather) Hudgins, both from Atlanta, GA.
