The Southern States PBA now offers Simple Will Preparation for its Georgia members. This program is just another avenue for providing exceptional service to our members. We want to make sure that not only you, the member, are protected, but also the families that you love so much. Listed below are a few factors to consider in preparation of your will.
Please note the following events can void your will, unless your will is made in contemplation of these events:
1- Birth or adoption of child
2- Marriage
3- Divorce
4- Physical alteration or destruction of the will
5- Significant change in financial status
6- Death of a beneficiary
7- Desire to add or change beneficiaries
8 - Death or incapacity of a named executor.
In addition to any of the above events, it is advisable to have an attorney review your will upon any major change in your life circumstances, in order to make certain that your will still satisfies your wishes. In most states, the will cannot be changed by adding, deleting, or modifying words on the face of the will; such changes are usually disregarded. It is recommended that the will be revoked by signing a new will which expressly revokes the previous will.
Make sure that your executor/executrix knows where to find your will and that it can be easily located. We recommend that you select a safe place - OTHER THAN A SAFETY DEPOSIT VAULT - for storing your will. A safety deposit box is not easily accessible at the time of your death.
