Jun 7, 2011

The Police Benevolent Foundation, Inc. and the Tennessee Division of the Southern States PBA are in mourning as one of their own, Deputy Keith Bellar of the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office, was shot in the head while responding to what he believed was a motor vehicle accident that turned out to be a domestic dispute on Monday, June 6th. Deputy Bellar was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died Tuesday morning from injuries. Deputy Bellar paid the ultimate sacrifice, and it is with a heavy heart that the PBF asks for the help of the community, both locally and nationally, to aid in their efforts to provide much needed support for this deputy’s beneficiaries in their time of need.
An account has been established under the Police Benevolent Foundation called the “Keith Bellar Memorial Fund” at Regions Bank. Donations can be made at any Regions Bank so that the public can assist in the efforts to provide financial support to Deputy Bellar’s beneficiaries. Donations can also be made through the Police Benevolent Foundation's website at www.pbfi.org. Donations made to this memorial fund are 100% tax-deductible, and all proceeds will go to Deputy Bellar’s family.
The Police Benevolent Foundation is also taking donations via text for the “Keith Bellar Memorial Fund.” You can help by texting the phrase COPS BELLAR to 85944. A $10 donation will be made through your cell phone bill. The PBF is asking everyone to please pass this information along to friends and family. Deputy Bellar’s family will need all of us to rally behind them in these hard times.

Jackson Patterson is a freshman at the University of South Alabama with several big ambitions. He's just not sure which ones he will follow yet. "Right now, my biggest challenge is deciding what I want my future to look like," he told me. He's studying engineering, and it's possible that he chooses to go straight into building a career in the aerospace industry after college. But it's also possible that he takes an even more interesting path ? he's interested in traveling the world and performing on stage, for example ? because if one thing's for sure about Jackson, it's that he's willing to branch out and try new things that he finds exciting ? even if they're unconventional.
