CSRA Chapter Update

During the Augusta-Richmond County Commission meeting on October 7th, a motion was made by Commissioner Alvin Mason, seconded by Commissioner Ben Hassan and approved unanimously by the Commission to find the necessary funding for the Richmond County Sheriff's Office Salary Adjustments to be implemented January 1, 2015.  As you know, the PBA has lobbied long and hard to have Sheriff Richard Roundtree’s request for salary adjustments approved.  Last month, Lt. Lewis Blanchard spoke on behalf of the PBA and the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office regarding the salary adjustments and training pay for the RCSO Deputies.  Below is a breakdown of what has been requested which we believe after today’s meeting should be approved and implemented by January 1, 2015:

Deputies making less than $35,000.00 will have their pay increased by $3,000.00

Deputies making between $35,000.00 and $39,999.00 will have their pay increased by $2,000.00

Deputies making between $40,000.00 and $49,999.00 will have their pay increased by $1,500.00

Deputies making between $50,000.00 and $60,000.00 will have their pay increased by $1,000.00

The above pay adjustments will help to bring the RCSO in line with similar size agencies whom experience the same type of call volume and will help with recruitment, hiring and retention.

In addition, the goal is to have all certified deputies of the RCSO paid for their required 40 hours of training each year instead of using comp. time.  This will ensure that deputies are properly paid for required training. It will also benefit the community by allowing the sheriff to deploy those personnel back into the field vs. issuing comp. time for the training with a net gain of 16,000 man hours each year dedicated towards reducing crime.

The PBA would like to thank and acknowledge all of the hardworking commissioners for their dedication for improving public safety within our community.
