Deputy Sheriff Jason Keeter and Brody
Deputy Sheriff Jason Keeter and Brody

We salute Halifax County Sheriff’s Office K-9, Brody. After 3 1/2 years of work. Brody is now retired due to a medical condition. Brody's handler, Deputy Sheriff Jason Keeter, was well dedicated in the care and training of Brody. As a part of Brody's retirement, he is now personally owned by Jason who continues to care for him.

Brody is a six-year-old Brown Labrador Retriever from the state of Washington. He made his new home in Halifax County in September of 2010.  Brody was trained at the "Ventosa Kennels" in Scotland Neck (Halifax County), North Carolina. Brody is certified in police tracking and narcotics detection. He has gained the Certified by International Police Working Dog Association (IPWDA) in May of 2013.

During Brody's tenure, he conducted 26 public presentations that included community gatherings, churches and schools. He conducted 140 tracks where he had a 44% success rate of locating criminals and/or missing people. The average success rate for a K-9 in the United Sates is 18%.  He located 4,793.83 grams of marijuana, 212.22 grams of cocaine, 52 grams of heroin, 12.5 grams of methamphetamine and $106,111.00 of U.S. Currency.

Brody had over 1100 hours of training and was deployed 386 times.

During Brody's last deployment, he was able to locate a criminal that fled from a car stop at the end of a car chase. Brody not only found the criminal, but located over a pound of marijuana in a culvert pipe that was thrown by the suspect.

Deputy Jason Keeter was recognized in 2012 for Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.

We applaud Deputy Jason Keeter's dedication, love and allegiance to Brody and to what it means to be a Deputy Sheriff.  As a 25-year veteran of law enforcement, Deputy Jason Keeter and Brody were a team that stood second to none.

Happy retirement Brody! You created lots of memories with your personality, your loyalty to Jason, the tracks and drugs that you found. You will be missed on the street.  Enjoy the love and play time that you so very much earned!
