ALPBA President Donald Scott presents Juan Rodriquez, President of the Jefferson/Shelby Chapter, with the ALPBA Member of the Year award.

Every year the Alabama PBA honors one of their own by naming an ALPBA Officer of the Year.  This year’s recipient of the award was Juan Rodriquez.  Rodriguez has been in law enforcement for 25 years and has been with four different departments. He is currently working for the Homewood Police Department in Alabama and has been for 15 years. Rodriquez works on cases that range from homicides to human trafficking. His case load focuses on crimes against persons.

Juan Rodriquez says he didn’t have to think twice about joining the Alabama Police Benevolent Association. He knew how important it was to be a member of the PBA.  Rodriquez has worked hard for the ALPBA and the officers they represent. He currently holds the position of President of the Jefferson/Shelby Chapter of the ALPBA.

“It’s easy for law enforcement officers in today’s society to be falsely accused and you really need that legal protection,” said Rodriquez.

“Officer Rodriquez was chosen because of his outstanding leadership that he brought to the Jefferson/Shelby Chapter. He led the chapter back to where it needs to be,” said Donald Scott.

“I am completely humbled by this award and it was totally unexpected,” said Rodriquez.

Rodriquez enjoys many aspects of being a police officer, but he likes training officers and civilians the most.

“It is important to train civilians as well as officers, so that they can avoid becoming a victim,” said Rodriquez.

It was an easy career choice when Rodriquez decided to become a police officer. He has a strong compassion to protect members of his community and does all he can to keep criminals off the streets.
“A criminal is nothing but a bully. They prey on victims that are less equipped to defend themselves.”

The Southern States Police Benevolent Association and the Alabama Police Benevolent Association are proud to honor Juan Rodriquez as the 2012 ALPBA Officer of the Year.
