On Monday, December 14, 2015 the South Carolina Division of the Southern States PBA presented several Columbia police officers with checks from the Police Benevolent Foundation. Nine Columbia police officers’ homes sustained major damage during the flood caused by Hurricane Joaquin in October. The Police Benevolent Foundation and the South Carolina Division of the Southern States PBA rallied behind several Columbia police officers that were greatly affected by the flood.
South Carolina PBA President Dave Soderberg and Columbia Chapter President Joseph Czeladko were both in attendance. Soderberg and Czeladko were very appreciative of the enormous show of support that the officers received from the donations. “People sometimes forget that these officers lost their homes, but they were still out there working during the flood. It really speaks volumes about them. They were so taken aback by the outpouring of support that they received from the donations,” said Soderberg.
Columbia Chapter President Joseph Czeladko was also very touched by the donations raised for the officers. He said, “[It] was an emotion filled day, we were able to disperse those donations and I cannot begin to describe the gratefulness we have for the people who donated, supported and gave with their heart to us all during that time. I thank you. We thank you. You are amazing.”
