Virginia Division has active and successful 2011 political screening season

The Virginia Division conducted political screenings across the state for local and state office elections held in November 2011.  Our screening committees, made up of local chapter boards and members, met with over forty candidates. A total of twenty seven candidates were endorsed, twenty three of those candidates won their elections! Our screenings took place in Loudoun County, Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Radford and Newport News.

In Loudoun County Chapter President Brian Curtis and his Board screened, endorsed and helped elect Sheriff Mike Chapman, Commonwealth Attorney Jim Plowman, and three members of the Board of Supervisors, Scott York, Ralph Buona, Janet Clarke and Geary Higgins. In Charlottesville Chapter President Mike Wells and his Board screened for the position of District Supervisors.  Five candidates participated in the screening and endorsements were made for Ann Mallek of the Whitehall District, Den Boyd, of the Rivanna District, and Chris Dumler of the Scottsville District.  All three endorsed candidates were elected!

In Newport News the Colonial, Newport News and Southeast Chapters held the screening for House of Representatives and State Senate. Chapter President  DJ Pointer and Adam Cooper and board members represented their chapter members. Five of the screened and endorsed candidates were elected to office. In the Senate John Miller, Mamie Locke and Adam Ebbin won their districts, in the House David Yancy and Mayme BaCote were elected.  ( Photos are numbered as follows 001 Miller, 002 Locke, 004 Yancey, 006 BaCote)

Doug Childress, President of the Blue Ridge Chapter and Mike Wells from Charlottesville joined together to screen for State offices. Five of the six endorsed candidates won their bid for state office.  In the Senate Bryce Reeves, Tom Garrett and Creigh Deeds were elected, and in the House Mark Herring and David Tuscano won their elections. Moving now to our New River Chapter in Radford Virginia, Chapter President Jason Slaughter and his board screened for two local Sheriff Races and House and Senate seats. The Board endorsed four candidates, all of which won their elections.  Shannon Zeman was re-elected as Floyd County Sheriff and Tommy Whitt was re-elected as Montgomery County Sheriff.  John Edwards was re-elected to his position in the State Senate and Joseph Yost was elected to the House of Representatives.  (Photos numbered Zeeman 016, Edwards 020, Whitt 021, Yost 022)



Thanks to all of our chapter leaders who worked hard to conduct these important screenings.  These chapter leaders know the importance of involvement in local and state politics, and the positive impact this involvement can have on the working lives of their members.
