Mississippi PBA concerned over municipal judge's disregard of law protecting law enforcement officers
July 31, 2008 Last week's show cause hearing before Meridian Municipal Court Judge Robbie Jones involving PBA member Rusty Powell was a clear violation of a Mississippi statute which provides critical protection for the legal rights of law enforcement officers. By not providing for a probable cause hearing before proceeding with his show cause hearing as required by Mississippi code section 99-3-28(b), Judge Jones willfully deprived Inv. Powell and Lt. Dean Harper of their rights under the law. |

2006 George Almond Officer of the Year Named
March 15, 2007 Detective Jim Grier was named the 1st recipient of the 2006 George Almond Officer of the Year award in festivities at the Embassy Suites in Cary on February 17, 2007. The Cary Chapter Board, in their first year chose to sponsor an Officer of the Year award in honor of retired Detective George Almond. Almond, who is a PBA member was shot in the line of duty in October of 2001. |

February 21, 2007 The Cary Chapter, in its first year chose to sponsor an Officer of the Year award. The award was named for George Almond. Almond, a PBA member, was shot in the line of duty in October 2001. Almond survived the shooting and returned to duty as a Detective in juvenile investigations before retiring in August 2004. |
