The Police Benevolent Foundation and the Wake County Chapter of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina develop partnership

On Friday, December 3, 2010, NCPBA President, Randy Byrd, met with Laura Falanga in Raleigh to receive a $1,000.00 check from the Wake Chapter of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC). This donation was made possible through the efforts of local chapter members. Often times, we overlook the importance of leveraging our personal connections – even those within our own families. Because of the efforts of Tyler Medlin, a North Mecklenburg PBA Chapter board member, a new relationship was established with an organization that has long had a reputation for contributing to local causes. Tyler’s wife, Jessica, is an independent insurance agent and an active member of the IIANC. Through her husband, she became aware of the PBF and started talking to her fellow IIANC colleagues about the support that the PBF provides for officers and their families. The connection was made with Laura Falanga who serves as the president of the Wake County Chapter of the IIANC. The Wake County Chapter of the IIANC annually awards local charities with donations and because of Jessica’s work a donation was secured for the Foundation. According to Falanga, “The PBF presented us a wonderful opportunity to show our support for law enforcement officers and the sacrifices they make each day to keep our communities safe. We are looking forward to the continued relationship.” On February 26, 2011, the Police Benevolent Foundation took the opportunity to thank Falanga and the Wake County Chapter of the IIANC at the 5th Annual ‘George Almond’ Officer of the Year banquet in Cary. Executive Director Marlon Trone presented Falanga with a plaque of appreciation. Falanga also presented another check for $1,000 to the Police Benevolent Foundation. “We are so grateful to the Laura and the Wake County Chapter of the IIANC”, said NC Division President Randy Byrd. This outstanding organization truly understands the struggles that law enforcement officers and their families face each day”, he added.
